Questions and Answers
Does Propecia grows hair back? I am going bald on my front hair line. Before I buy propecia I was wondering does it work.

Freemale replied: "Propecia (finasteride) can help stop hair loss & regrow it, but it seems that it isn't very strong. It works as long as you take it; within 6-12 months of stopping usage, regrown hair can be lost. In clinical studies, Propecia, like minoxidil, was shown to work on both the crown area and the hairline,[11] but is most successful in the crown area. Propecia blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), but that's only one factor involved in hair loss. It seems that DHT (in conjunction with other factors) in the scalp causes the immune system to attack the hair follicles. A DHT blocker alone probably won't do much."

Jason A replied: "Propecia works for most people but it's expensive. Although the results are pretty good, it doesn't justify the hundreds of dollars a month you'll spend on drugs, or at least to me it doesn't. If you do use Propecia, be sure to keep your head healthy by protecting it from the sun. Also use those shampoos that help with thinning (liak niaxin, etc.)"

Does Propecia make existing hair grow thicker? I have been taking Propecia for 5 months now and it does seem to be working in areas of my head with hair loss. When I first started to loss my hair, it seems that the rest of my hairs have gotten thinner. Will propecia make the hair I already have grow in thicker? My hair loss is at the crown and the front hair line. The sides of my head has always had thick, full hair. I just want to know if Propecia can restore the hair of the top of my head like the sides are.

heatedwirez replied: "Basically it was designed to prevent further hair loss, and this is what it does in a majority of people who take it. In some cases there is a small amount of re-growth and thickening of the hair that is already left, but that is more of a bonus. The expected results are still to simply see prevention of further hair loss."

LoganA replied: "There are severeal forms of baldenss. If it is male pattern baldness (Androgenetic alopecia) then the hairloss cannot be fully cured in most cases, but just frozen for some time with the treatments availiable on market today. 1) Hair transplant (FUE technology) creates really natural hairline, no scars, the best way to go if you have enough donor hair and money of course. 2. Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil are the only ones approved by FDA and proven to work in most men so far. Generic Propecia (finasteride) is also ok. I use it with same results, and unfortunately same sides(a bit dry feeling in the scalp) as brand propecia. Have tried lots of herbal crap before it and laser combs, so far the only thing that prevents my hairloss, not much regrowth, but has stopped my hairloss completely. I buy from this pharmacy for the last 2 years - . It is under $1 per pill as I buy the 90 pills. (89$ for 90)"

Does anyone know if Propecia the hair loss pill cause dehydration? It does not mention it on the side effects information label.....but there has been times when I have woken up in the morning feeling really dehydrated. Don't know if Propecia might be the cause of it.

siameseknees replied: "Many, many prescription and even non prescription medications cause some annoying side effects ,,, dehydration is a very common one to experience. (Finasteride)Propecia a hair loss medication targets the skin and hair follicles. Sometimes affecting the bodies ability to sweat and regulate body temperature. Only way to combat this is lots of water ... maybe keep a bottle of water beside your bed at night. Just rest assured this is a to be expected side effect and nothing to worry about. Annd one you can live with if the drug actually works, right? lol ***ACTUALLY IT DOES TARGET THE FOLLICLES AS WELL ... AS WELL AS INCREASING THE PRODUCTION OF TESTOSTERONE ,,, THOUGH I DID NOT TOUCH ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS IN NO RELATION TO THE CAUSE OF THE ASKERS DEHYDRATION ... WHICH I DO BELIEVE TO BE A COMMON REACTION OF SUCH MEDS."

mr.answerman replied: "Propecia does not target the skin. Its target is a derivative of testosterone. It prevents the formation of this hormone and thus affects hair growth. This drug will not cause dehydration, you may want to drink more water before going to bed, or get a humidifier for your bedroom."

I take propecia for hair loss. Will this work because I am on kidney dialysis or will it get washed away? Most meds get washed away. I am wondering if Propecia will get washed away or because I only dialyze 3 days a week, if it will still work.

d.f. replied: "from what I hear propecia needs to be taken regularly but even diluted it seems to work somewhat. Some people have even been able to split a 1mg pill into 4 and it still works. I had bad side effects from propecia so I stopped taking it long ago. Maybe you should try some topical DHT blocker instead? like revivogen."

Does Propecia stimulate hair growth or just prevent hair loss? I was getting annoyed with thinning hair that is a side effect of medication I need to take. My neurologist who prescribes the medication I must take said Propecia should show some hair growth in 4 months. My physician said it will not stimulate hair growth, just prevent hair loss. Who's right here?

scott b replied: "It stimulates hair growth as long as you continue to use it."

blackbird replied: "Propecia only helps to prevent further hair loss, to slow it down. But even this is not 100% effective. As far as stimulating new growth, Don't hold your breath on that one!!! You'll be very disappointed. clinical tests have never proven anything like that. It only slows down the RATE of hair loss. Nothing more. and as soon as you stop using it, all bets are off!!!"

Hair Loss trying a med called Propecia does this work or no? Hi, I need some help with my problem, at 24 years old i start to loss my hair, now at 30 years i lost a lot, 2 weeks ago i went to a hair transplant doctor,he said try a pill called Propecia. Is this pill any good? Does it help? As any one seeing hair grow back or lossing more? Any one had any bad side affects from this med? Thanks for any help.

KatUTex replied: "I worked in a pharmacy for many years, and a lot of men swear by their Propecia, I heard many good things about it. I also know a man in his late 20s and it has stopped his hair loss from progressing."

l3arc0de replied: "nothing is going to make your hair grow back.. The propecia will in a lot of cases slow or stop the progression of hair loss. It doesn't work for all men but i have heard a lot of good things about it. I have also heard that the rogaine and propecia in combination works well."

Mukunda M replied: "Do An ANSWERS search and you will find Propecia users all say it has not helped. After many years of research and self experimentation this was the only natural treatment I found that stops thinning and loss almost straight away and also produces new growth. My hair has completely regrown on crown. Where receded at front regrowth has been slower, but has virtually grown back to original hair line and though sparse at beginning, each month it became denser. Massage thoroughly with natural oils - olive oil is excellent - then using a palm held short bristled brush (soft natural boar bristles) brush vigorously so you really feel it stimulating scalp (90 /100 strokes or even more each day focusing on where loss is). After scalp adjusts you can increase brushing to 150 strokes. Will unplug blocked hair ducts indicated by painful small spots like pimples and a cause of hair loss and It will grow faster, thicker and It will force the new growth. Brushing before you apply oil is equally OK. A little shedding and breakage may occur at first but quickly stops as hair gets better anchored and stronger. Initially hairs will be weak looking and sparse. Don't be concerned if brushing uproots them as they will re-appear even stronger. It demands perseverance week in, week out to get the same results. I've found most do not persevere and so fail to get them. But have heard from some who have had equal if not better success. One of main causes of loss are harmful shampoos and even more harmful dandruff shampoos and too frequent washing. Do a Google to find safe, non harmful products then shop for them at GNC, Trader Joes, Wegmans, Cost plus, Earth Fare, some Walmart stores, and natural health stores. Genetics probably are a factor in hair loss. My immediate family members have severe loss. I believe this treatment saved me from the same fate. Try it you will be happy that you did! SOURCE(S): 20+ years research, self experimentation using natural treatments to cure skin, scalp and hair disorders"

Has anyone tried Propecia for hair loss? If so has it worked for you? I am considering going on Propecia for my thinning hair. I was wondering if anyone had tried it and whether it has worked for you.

Kristen replied: "I have tried Propecia for thinning my hair, i have used it and it really works, your hair will be thin, and you'll love it! :)"

a_sexualasianangel replied: "A friend of mine used it for a period of four months and saw no results at all."

does propecia cause hair loss at the temples... seems to grow hair in some areas and cause loss in others :(? I understand how propecia works, but find very little info on the net from anyone that has anything negative to say about the drug -- other than the 2% of users that claim sexual dysfunction (probably much higher based on my experience with the drug). What I am curious about is how it can be "ineffective against hair loss at the temples" but somehow seems to be exaserbating (sp?) it?? The hair on the back of the head gets fuller but at the expense of the temples... it also has affected my eyebrows... the skin beneath them is now dry and they seem to fall out much quicker... definitely a result of the propecia... but again no info on the net that talks to any of this -- nice to have a pocketful of gold as some corporations do to protect their interest...

creative g replied: "There are various types of treatments for alopecia. One of them is Propecia, which is hugely popular and sold all over the world. A male hormone DHT is mainly responsible for hair loss. The DHT imbalance is rectified when you use Propecia. The constant use of Propecia has shown positive results in 80% of the cases. Another medicine is... "

Does anyone know when Propecia (the hair-loss prevention pill) will be available in generic form? I think the patent expires soon but can't find any information as to when exactly. There is a lot of fake stuff out there - but at about $2 per pill, a generic form would be nice. I believe its made right now by Merck. Thanks.

Tatzu replied: "The generic version of Propecia is alredy out, I forgot the name of it but I'll post it in just a moment as soon as I find out. Ok, got it, I believe it's called Finax."

Rhonda T replied: "My husband has been ordering the generic version finasteride for years from . It is authentic, still in blister packs and manufacturers name and expiration dates. You will not get counterfeit meds here. I think he gets around 90 pills for $70 and it is working GREAT!"
